Works well
Some state the filter gets dirty from the water being dirty. The air goes through the wet filter and the filter gets dirty from the dust in the air and things in the water. We change our filter maybe twice in a cold season. Use the Protec Antimicrobial Cleaning Cartridge to keep the inside of the water reservoir clean.

they don't get it
Don't believe the rest of the reviews. They don't get it. This product works exactly the way it should. There are different ways to humidify a room. The way this one works is that the filter soaks up water like a sponge. The fan pulls air through the sponge. Little bits of water vapor gets pulled off the sponge and into your room. This works great bc water vapor is pure water. Any impurities or contamination stays on the filter. All regular drinking water in the U.S. has trace minerals in it - that gives water flavor and taste. When the water vapor goes into your room, these trace minerals are left behind on the filter, leaving it hard and crusty - this is supposed to happen! That means it's working! You don't change the filter when it's slightly crusty - you only change it when it no longer has any soft bits that are soaking up water. Even if you keep running it you aren't getting impurities in your room - that's impossible using the water vapor method. Bottom line is that this works perfectly the way it should. Only downside is that these filters cost more from CVS than elsewhere.

awful
I don't know how well this filter actually does what it says it does, but buying new filters for it as often as is described to, is certainly a waste of money. It does not last as long as it is supposed to between changings, either. Within the first week of using my new humidifier with this filter, it already was becoming stiff and dirty. And I was filling the machine with bottled water. So how much bacteria etc. was in that water to begin with ? At $9.00 per filter, I'll be paying for this machine again within 4 months time, if I use it every day. I've decided to rinse it out every month instead of buying new ones. I rinse it with a vinegar and water solution. Then, every so often, I'll rinse it with a mild bleach and water solution to reuse it again. Once it gets "crusty" feeling, I will toss it out. Then...and only maybe then, will I replace it. I can't believe there is so much bacteria in bottled water. Can't be. If I'm drinking it without filtering it, what harm can it do to me by breathing in it's vapor ?

Well if you really need it...
I had to buy a humidifier because I have breathing problems, especially at night, and it helps me sleep. The problem is, these filters get dirty quickly, usually within a matter of weeks as opposed to the 2 months which it says you should change the filter. Really not worth it, unless you need it.

Way overpriced
The vaporizer has been paid for 5 times over if you buy these overpriced filters. "Extended Life" is a joke!
