For customers who aren't spending extended periods of time with their heads under chlorinated water, this mascara is plenty long-lasting and waterproof. I've used other waterproof mascaras that are perhaps more intensely waterproof, but they failed to deliver on volume/length, and I like bold upper lashes. This mascara builds up wonderfully and lasts well. I wear it when I workout, and even after I've been dripping with sweat for an hour, my mascara looks fine. I will say, I do not use this on my bottom lashes because I prefer them to have lighter application, and this product is TOO volumizing for them, so I can't speak to whether or not using this on bottom lashes would result in raccoon-eyes. Generally I use another defining, natural-looking mascara first to separate each individual lash. I then use this mascara on top of that to get the "wow" factor (but even used alone, this mascara works well-- Mascaras that separate AND volumize don't really exist, so I choose to combine products to achieve the effect I want). People frequently comment on my lashes and ask me what kind of mascara I use, and I attribute my lashes to this product. On other sites I've seen reviews complaining about difficulty removing waterproof mascara, including this specific product-- you must use makeup remover *intended* for waterproof mascara! Otherwise, yes, you will rip out your lashes. A great economical option is cold cream; a small container is cheap and lasts for a long time. Just gently massage it on your eyes and wipe away with a tissue. I've been doing this for YEARS and it removes even the toughest mascara. If the greasy residue bothers you, gently wipe it away with a cotton ball and some witch-hazel (an economical astringent). My eyelash type: naturally curly, thick, medium-length, blonde

You can't beat L'Oreal's Voluminous Mascara for lengthening and thickening your eyelashes. It's great mascara. But the waterproof version is not waterproof enough to not smear while swimming in salt water or fresh water. I like to wear mascara at the beach/pool. But if you swim and get your eyes wet, this WILL definitely smear below your eyes.

I've been using this mascara for multiple years and love it. It does not run in the rain and as far as waterproof goes, realistically no mascara would withstand prolonged swimming. For me, this mascara is amazing!

I've worn this a few times now and can't figure out what it is 'waterproof' against. Definite racoon eyes after swimming with goggles! I'm really disappointed.
