The coarseness of the metal surface is just right for removing callus at the bottom & back of my heel. When I am almost done, I apply very light pressure and it's not even necessary to use the emery surface because my heel is quite smooth ( I wear pressure stocking daily.) It's easy to remove the residue as there's an indentation on the side to allow for the metal part to peel off & snap back on. This also means this unit will catch some of the callus it's removing. The handle is comfortable to hold and well designed.
