Cardboard Tampons

Some people choose to use cardboard tampons to help the environment while still using a tampon with an applicator to ease insertion. The cardboard applicator is biodegradable, helping reduce pollution by breaking down naturally. Others opt for cardboard-style tampon applicators because they're free of latex, dyes, elemental chlorine bleaching and BPA, so they may be less irritating against the skin than plastic options for some people.  

After using cardboard tampons, it's easy to use freshening wipes to clean up around the insertion area and to toss the wipe, applicator and old tampon into any trash receptacle.  

Plastic and cardboard applicators have different designs that can change the way a tampon is inserted, but neither one is better than the other based on the application style alone. Plastic tampons have tapered edges and are smoother, making insertion simpler for people learning to use tampons for the first time. Cardboard tampons are more flexible than plastic applicators, and some versions are also tapered, which may be beneficial for some people.  

Cardboard tampons, as well as organic tampons, tend to be unscented and unbleached, which may be better for those with sensitive skin. Other tampons are scented or may have odor-shield technology to minimize odors during wear.  

Cardboard tampons with light, regular, super, super plus or ultra absorbency protect against leaks no matter how heavy the flow. Tampons work for up to 8 hours for most people, allowing you to insert one and get back to your day.  

Organic tampons use 100% organic cotton to help prevent irritation during wear, and those with an antislip grip are easier to hold onto while inserting the tampon. Choose unscented tampons from CVS Health to prevent irritation from perfumes, or find anti-leak styles for heavier flows. 

Combine tampons with ultra-thin pads or overnight maxi pads for extra security, so you know you're protected against leaks at all times during your period.
