Paraben Free Lube

Parabens are a group of chemicals that act as preservatives to help prevent cosmetics, foods and other products from spoiling as quickly. Parabens are typically found in makeup and moisturizers, but they also feature in many other products, including personal lubricants. 

Parabens absorb readily into your skin, which may be why some people experience allergic reactions to the chemicals. These compounds are also known as endocrine disrupters and may have subtle effects on your hormone levels as they mimic the effects of estrogen.  

It's unknown whether the small amount used in most products adversely affects health. Still, a paraben-free personal lube can be a good choice if you're worried about exposure or experience allergies to parabens.

Because parabens preserve the formula rather than reduce friction or prevent the liquid from drying out, replacing them with gentler compounds shouldn't affect the lubricant's performance.  

Of course, your personal experience can also determine which lube is ideal for your needs, so it may take some experimentation to find the perfect product. Generally, water-based lube is ideal for most people, as it's easy to wash off and is usually compatible with condoms, toys and intimate areas. Silicone lubricants are also compatible with most condoms and may be better for sensitive skin, but they're not suitable for use with silicone-based toys.
