Overnight Pads

It can be difficult to get a restful night's sleep when you have your period, but the right overnight pads can provide worry-free protection and help prevent leaks.

How Long Do Overnight Pads Last?

Overnight pads are designed to be super absorbent, so you're less likely to have to get up to replace the pad in the middle of the night. In general, the pad should provide up to 10 hours of protection, but if your period is particularly heavy, you may need to change it during the night.

Some women may also use a tampon with a nighttime pad when their period is at its heaviest. It's generally considered safe to wear a tampon overnight as long as it's for less than 8 hours. Disposable period underwear is another option if you're concerned about leaks soiling your undergarments and sheets. Always ZZZ is styled like underwear and provides 360-degree coverage.

What Are the Best Overnight Pads?

Every person is different, so it's important to look for a nighttime pad that fits well and provides the coverage you need.

If your pads shift out of place at night, consider overnight pads with wings. Brands such as Always and Stayfree feature adhesive tabs to help the pads stay in position, whether you sleep on your back, side or stomach.

Extra-heavy overnight pads are designed with absorbent channels to capture moisture and help you feel dry. These products are usually longer than regular pads — and sometimes wider at the back — to provide enhanced period protection. Teenagers may find that smaller U by Kotex Teen overnight pads fit more comfortably.

Can You Wear Overnight Pads During the Day?

Some women wear nighttime pads to school or work when their flow is heavy to take advantage of the increased absorbency. Since these products tend to be longer and bulkier than regular menstrual pads, you may want to look for thin and ultra-thin overnight versions for a more streamlined fit under your clothing. Consider keeping menstrual pain relievers in your bag in case you need to ease aches and cramps during the day.
