NicConfirm Nicotine Home Drug Test Cup

2 EA, 0.2 lbs. Item # 185260

The NicConfirm Nicotine Home Drug Test is a rapid, oral fluid screening test that can be performed without the use of an instrument.

The test utilizes antibodies to selectively detect elevated levels of specific drugs in human oral fluid. Cotinine is the first-stage metabolite of nicotine, a toxic alkaloid that stimulates the autonomic ganglia and central nervous system in humans. Nicotine is a drug to which virtually every member of a tobacco-smoking society is exposed whether through direct contact or second-hand inhalation.

Aside from tobacco, nicotine is also commercially available as the active ingredient in smoking replacement therapies such as nicotine gum, transdermal patches and nasal sprays. Regardless of whether nicotine in a donor was derived from tobacco use or through a nicotine-replacement therapy, if the metabolite cotinine is present in sufficient concentration, the test result will be positive.

Although nicotine is excreted in saliva, the relatively short half-life of the drug makes it an unreliable marker for tobacco use. Cotinine, however, demonstrates a substantially longer half-life than nicotine, bears a high correlation with plasma cotinine levels, and has been found to be the best marker for smoking status compared with saliva nicotine measurements, breath carbon monoxide testing, and plasma thiocyanate testing.

The window of detection for cotinine in saliva at a cutoff level of 30 ng/mL is expected to be up to 1-4 days after nicotine use.

Difficult to use
First attempt was an utter failure. I had enough blood in the well but I think 3 minutes was too long and the blood may have clotted. The pullout tab was tight and hard to pull out. I never got any readings at all--a total waste. Second attempt went better, glad there were two sets in the box.

Test kit needs a lot of blood
I test my blood glucose regularly and I estimate that this cholesterol kit requires several times the blood needed by my glucose meter. I was not able to supply the quantity of blood needed. The test expects you to stick the end of your finger and have blood drip into the kit reservoir. I was able to only get it half-way full so I don't put much stock in the results it gave. If you can drip several drops of blood maybe the test will work better for you but I don't trust my results based on the stated blood requirements.

Had no problem doing test however
Did not have problem with test and both showed test results ready. However, my wife and myself went to give blood immediately after and they gave us a free cholesterol check. When we got the results back we both showed 50mg higher than what "First Check " results were???? We did not eat or anything else before we went to give blood so there shouldn't have been any difference? If you can give blood you get the test for free a win, win. It's less trouble to give blood than take the test and wait for the results.

Very happy with this product
Test worked great. Be sure and pull side tab out till arrow shows it is a little hard to pull. If you do not get all the way out it will not test correctly. But I did my husband and myself and both worked fine.
