Hospital Grade Gloves & Masks

Using hospital gloves and masks can help prevent the spread of bacteria and viruses and protect the wearer from harmful substances. If you think you may benefit from using gloves and masks, CVS Health can help you add these items to your first aid kit.

What Are Hospital Grade Gloves Made Of?

Most hospital-grade disposable gloves used to be made from latex; however, they're now often made from vinyl or a synthetic rubber called nitrile. As some people suffer from latex allergies, vinyl and nitrile gloves can be a more suitable option in a medical setting to help prevent allergies.

Vinyl and nitrile are durable and flexible and help create an effective barrier between the wearer and harmful fluids or irritants.

What Are the Best Medical Grade Gloves?

When choosing the best hospital gloves, consider who'll be wearing them to determine the correct size. Gloves come in a variety of sizes, including small, medium and large, to suit most hands.

Check to see whether the gloves offer enough sensitivity if you need to use precision tools or do delicate work, such as feeling for a vein — nitrile gloves may offer better sensitivity than vinyl gloves. Gloves with grips on the fingertips can help when using tools and moving patients but may rub or pull a patient’s skin. As vinyl gloves have a more slippery texture than those made of nitrile, they may be more suitable for handling patients.

Some gloves, such as CVS Health Oatmeal Nitrile Exam Gloves, are treated with a skin protectant so that your hands stay soft after using them.

What Are Hospital Grade Masks Made Of?

Masks are worn over the mouth and nose and help to protect against fluids and sprays, such as those that occur when a person coughs. They’re usually manufactured from multiple layers of non-woven, synthetic material. Non-woven material can be less slippery against the skin and may provide a more effective barrier to prevent the transmission of viruses and bacteria.

Masks often have an aluminum nosepiece that allows you to bend and form the mask around your nose for a snug fit. The mask covers the nose and mouth and attaches to the ears with elasticated ear loops.

Medical-grade masks help protect you in a medical setting while keeping you comfortable.
