CVS Health Antibiotic Ointment

Cuts, scrapes and burns can become infected, so using CVS Health antibiotic ointment might help fight infection while soothing the affected area. Different products contain specific active ingredients to reduce the chance of infection, fight soreness and keep the injury clean. Having an antibiotic cream on hand in your first aid kit can be useful for unexpected injuries, minor burns and accidents that need extra care. Ointments are usually suitable for adults and children.

What Is CVS Health Antibiotic Ointment?

Antibiotics are medicines used to fight some types of bacterial infections. CVS Health antibiotic ointment is a thick cream you can apply to an injury to aid its healing. CVS triple antibiotic and pain relief ointment helps fight infection while soothing pain using a combination of active antibiotics, such as bacitracin zinc, neomycin sulfate and polymyxin B sulfate, along with an analgesic. For extra pain relief, choose a maximum-strength product. In addition to applying antibiotic ointment, you can use wound wash, wipes, gels and sprays to help combat infection.

How to Apply CVS Health Antibiotic Ointment

Always read the label before you use an antibiotic ointment. You may first need to wash the area and remove blood, dirt and debris to avoid irritating the injury. You can usually rub the ointment onto the area with your finger, taking care not to exceed the correct dosage. To keep the cut or scrape protected, you may be able to cover it with a sterile bandage, but avoid covering burns.
