Coricidin Cold Medicine

The Coricidin brand offers various cold and flu medicines, making it highly effective at treating the symptoms that bother you the most. Quite uniquely, the brand caters primarily to people with high blood pressure, offering many effective Coricidin cold medicines for high blood pressure patients, such as Coricidin HBP Maximum Strength. 

Coricidin products don't contain decongestants or other ingredients that can affect blood pressure, potentially making them a better choice if you have hypertension or heart disease. These products may also offer a gentler way to treat your illness if you're sensitive to the phenylephrine or pseudoephedrine found in most traditional cold medicines. 

Acetaminophen — the active ingredient found in Tylenol — helps ease minor discomforts, such as headaches, sinus pain, muscle aches and joint pain. Viral illnesses, such as the common cold or influenza, often cause you to experience aching muscles and joints and various other pains, so acetaminophen is a frequent addition to cold and flu formulas across many brands. As such, many Coricidin cold medicines include acetaminophen, and these particular products shouldn't be taken together with Tylenol. 

If you're unsure whether your cold medicine contains acetaminophen, you can usually check the package ingredient list to confirm. If still in doubt, ask your pharmacist for advice, as they can tell you which cold and flu treatments, pain relief medicines and other products you may take together. 

Coricidin's decongestant-free formulas are suitable for many people, including those who are sensitive to decongestant ingredients or have high blood pressure. Not all products may be suitable for you, however, especially if you take any prescription medications or have a medical condition. 

Some Coricidin products contain an antihistamine to help soothe itchy eyes and relieve nasal congestion. These products make cause drowsiness, making them unsuitable if you take any other sedating medications or need to drive. They may not be the right choice if you have thyroid disease, glaucoma, constipation or certain other conditions, so it's best to ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice first. 

Coricidin's preparations containing dextromethorphan may also be problematic for some people. Although dextromethorphan is an effective cough suppressant with few side effects when used correctly, it may interact with antidepressants and certain other medications.
