Coppertone for Sensitive Skin
Coppertone for sensitive skin helps protect your skin from the damaging effects of the sun's ultraviolet rays while also reducing the chance of uncomfortable skin irritation.
How Does Coppertone Sunscreen Protect You From Sunburn?
Sunburn is caused by the ultraviolet photons carried by natural sunlight, which are more commonly referred to as UV rays. When your skin absorbs UV rays, your body creates free radicals, which can damage your skin cells.
In addition to resulting in uncomfortable sunburn, UV rays also speed up the emergence of visible signs of aging, such as wrinkles, fine lines and crow's feet. Unprotected time in direct sunlight is also associated with skin cancer.
Sunscreen works as a fine layer over your skin that keeps the sun's UV rays from actually penetrating it and causing its negative effects. However, wearing sunscreen only reduces the number of UV rays that get through to your skin; sunscreen can't block those rays entirely.
You can think of a sunscreen's SPF rating as an indication of how much longer you can remain in the sun without becoming sunburned than if you weren't wearing any protection at all. An SPF 10 sunscreen is roughly 10 times more effective against sunburn than going out without UV protection, while an SPF 50 sunscreen is roughly 50 times more effective.
What Is the Best Coppertone Sensitive Skin Sunscreen?
Coppertone makes a few sunscreens formulated specifically for people with easily irritated skin. Coppertone for sensitive skin formulas tend to contain no parabens, dyes or fragrances and are made with specific compounds and botanicals that are soothing to the skin.
Coppertone Pure & Simple SPF 50 broad-spectrum sunscreen lotion, for example, contains zinc oxide, lotus, tea leaf and sea kelp. Coppertone Defend & Care broad-spectrum SPF 50 lotion and Coppertone Kids tear-free broad-spectrum sunscreen SPF 50 also include zinc oxide.
Can You Use Coppertone Sunscreen on Your Face?
Absolutely. If you have particularly sensitive skin, or if you're prone to acne, you can turn to Coppertone products made specifically for facial use, such as Coppertone Sport mineral face lotion and Coppertone Defend & Care Face oil-free lotion. Both have an SPF of 50.
Since the skin of the face tends to be oilier and more delicate than that of the rest of the body, facial sunscreens are generally made with minimal potential irritants. They also tend to be a bit thinner than full-body versions, which in turn makes them less likely to clog the pores of your face.
