Blue Nail Polish

Blue nail polish can provide a surprising and gorgeous pop of color on your hands. Select from many hues, coordinating your polish with favorite outfits and jewelry or creating fun nail art to impress your friends.

How to Apply Blue Nail Polish

Whether you're applying traditional polish or blue nail polish gel, start by prepping your nails. Clear away old polish, trim your nails as desired and file the nails smooth. You might also want to soak your nails and push back cuticles. Then, start with a base coat and wait for it to dry.

Once your nails are ready for the polish, apply a thin, even layer of blue nail polish to each nail. Wait for the layer to dry and add another if desired for the best color hue. Finish the polish job with a top coat to ensure your blue nail polish looks great and stays on longer.

When Was Blue Nail Polish Invented?

Nail polish traditions date back thousands of years, but the modern nail polish product you're familiar with was first created in the 1920s. While there's no exact date for the first blue nail polish, it wasn't a popular product until at least the 1960s. During those years, both navy and baby blue hues became popular. Since then, a variety of blue tones have been perfected for polish, promoting nail decor creativity.

What Can You Do With Blue Nail Polish?

The number of blue nail polish colors available today makes it possible to create a wide variety of nail looks with blue polish. You can choose your favorite blue hue, paint your nails, perfect the look with a top coat and go about your day.

But you might also get creative. Blue-green tones cry out for the creation of seascapes on your nails, with the addition of swirled corals in complementary colors or tiny fish amid the waves. Sky blue hues make a great background for clouds created with white nail polish or the hint of rainbows.

Show off your baby blue nails against a white or black dress or sweater, or pair blue nails with an equally vibrant ensemble for all-over color pops.
